BUFFALO, NY - Third baseman/designated hitter Tyler Mautner was honored as one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team, the newspaper announced this afternoon. He become the sixth UB newcomer to make the postseason Freshmen All-American team, joining Bobby Pizzuto (2007), Mike Folli (2005), and Tyler Balentine and Bryan Sanchez (2000).
Mautner recovered from a shoulder injury in 2012 that shelved him for his entire true freshman year, and rebounded to be one of the best hitters in the UB lineup. Splitting time between third base and as the designated hitter, Mautner batted .295 with 35 runs batted in over 55 games. He also hit 23 doubles to set a single-season record in the category, and had a pair of home runs. The Sherrill, NY native was named the Mid-American Conference's East Division Player of the Week in the final week of the season, and also made the All-MAC second team.
